The La Jolla Country Day School risk management team has been meeting daily to discuss the rapidly evolving situation with COVID-19 and rising concerns. After consultation with various medical and public health experts around the nation and the world, La Jolla Country Day School is taking proactive measures and no classes, athletic practices and contests (CIF athletics, Middle School athletics or club teams affiliated with the school), rehearsals, performances or group gatherings will be conducted or encouraged on or off campus beginning Saturday, March 14 through Sunday, April 5. We will reassess and communicate the situation before our scheduled return from spring break on Monday, April 6. The campus will be closed, and parents, students and faculty will not be allowed on campus.
We did not make this decision lightly. In difficult times, difficult decisions must be made. While there are currently no cases of the coronavirus in our school community and only a handful of cases have been identified in San Diego, we believe that it is in the best interest of our local, national and global community.
In anticipation of the possibility of the virus spreading in San Diego in the upcoming weeks, LJCDS has a responsibility to help slow the spread of COVID-19. We believe this is a critical moment in the outbreak when such proactive measures can potentially impact the spread of the disease.
