ESPN five-star post Breya Cunningham, the nation’s No. 4 overall prospect in the class of 2023, is one of the most coveted women’s basketball players in America.
The dominant 6-foot-4 post has scholarship offers from the top programs from across the country.
So far, Cunningham has narrowed her list down to a final eight of Arizona, Duke, Notre Dame, Oregon, Texas, UCLA, UConn and USC.
Hoping to learn more about one of her top options, Cunningham took an unofficial visit to the University of Oregon this weekend.
It was a return trip for the bluechip prospect, as she visited as an eighth grader and came away with just one takeaway: the trees.
Luckily for Oregon, this was a much more in-depth visit.
“I really liked the campus and the coaches were awesome,” she said. “Te-Hina is there and she is my fav.”
Hailing from La Jolla Country Day School in Chula Vista, California, Cunningham and Paopao were teammates during the five-star recruit’s freshman year.
In that one high school season, the dynamic duo led their program to three major championships: CIF San Diego Sectional, Nike Tournament of Champions and the high school national championship.
“What do I like about Te-Hina? Everything,” Cunningham said. “She is my big sister. I’ve been playing with, and learning from, T since I was in seventh grade. She is a major part of all my success.”
Going into the trip, she anticipated a reunion with her favorite point guard, but also came away with a strong bond to the entire program.
“I really do like the players, staff and the culture that Oregon women’s basketball has,” she said.
Still, the Ducks will have a major recruiting fight on their hands.
Cunningham is set to visit Texas this weekend and is still planning trips to UConn, Duke and Notre Dame.
The connection to Paopao should give Oregon a small boost, but in the end it will all come down to where Cunningham is most comfortable.
“I don’t know when I will make my final decision,” she said. “I want to get to know each program better.”
