Congratulations to La Jolla Country School women’s basketball coach Terri Bamford who was honored on Monday night by the High School Sports Association of San Diego with their Head Coaches Award. This prestigious award honors “deserving coaches, administrators, community members, and corporate sponsors for their efforts in helping further the education of our young men and women through athletics.”
Coach Bamford has been the head women’s basketball coach at Country Day for the past nineteen years. During that time she has compiled an impressive total of 474 wins including 15 Coastal League Championships, 13 CIF Championships, 12 SoCal Regional Championships, 8 State Championship Finals, and 4 State Championships. Coach Bamford was also named the CalHi Sports Coach of the Year in 2001 and 2012.
More importantly, Coach Bamford is a tremendous mentor to her players. She has developed strong, confident, capable young women throughout the years. Forty of Coach Bamford’s players have gone on to compete at the Division I level and countless others have played at Division II and III Schools.
Coach Bamford was surrounded by friends and family at the moving ceremony on February 4, including her son Frankie, a La Jolla Country Day lifer and member of the class of 2012. Coach Bamford joins La Jolla Country Day legends Bill Cahoone, Peter Ogle, and Jeff Hutzler as recipients of the All-Star Award.
