Dear Loyal Torrey Football Fans,
Our 2018 season came to an end in wild fashion on Friday night. After a challenging season, your Torreys gave it their all and never gave up in our first-round playoff loss to 5-seeded Santana HS. We battled through some injuries all night and made a few costly mistakes early on, leading to a 55-28 deficit at the beginning of the 4th quarter. However, as has been the case all season, the team showed heart and grit as they refused to throw in the towel. We cut the lead to 14 at multiple points in the 4th quarter, but unfortunately, we couldn’t come up with the key stop when we needed it and we lost 76-55.
The game was a wild one. This was the highest scoring 11-man football game in CIF-SDS history, with 131 total points; it’s also believed to have had the most total yards in a game (nearly 1,400). Additionally, both Philip Gooding ’21 and Sincere Blackmon ’19 threw for about 250 yards and at least 15 completions on the way to throwing for a combined 503 yards, 33 completions, and 7 TD passes (all Torrey single game records). Nick Albert ’20 set the Torrey record for receiving yards in a game with 256, he also had his first 100-yard rushing game (and 4 TDs). Daniel Rosenberg ’21 caught 9 balls for 143 yards and 2 TDs, and Brandon Kim ‘20 caught 8 passes for 2 TDs. Defensively, Zach Alligood ’19 finished with 19 tackles, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.
